[Pre-Interview] 10 important things to keep in mind while preparing for RBI Interview

  1. First thing that one must realise that Interview is not about your knowledge assessment. It is to test your personality and your suitability for the job. There is no need to prepare a list of 500/1000 questions and then try to memorise it. Nothing can be more inefficient than this.

  2. There can be no “One size fits all” approach towards interview prep. Preparation should be very specific to your profile. Based on your profile - Education, Work ex, Hobbies, Other qualifications - you can judge the types of questions you will be asked. More the diversity in your profile, more profile and HR based your interview is going to be.

  3. Make a list of 30–40 questions based on your profile and prepare 40 seconds answer for each question. Not more than 40 questions. This exercise also helps you in knowing yourself better.

  4. Work on Structuring and presentation of your answers. Try to answer random opinion based questions from Interview transcripts and record yourself. This gives you an idea how you look to the other person and helps you eliminate your obvious flaws.

  5. Do not rush through your answers. I have had opportunity to work with a few Billionaires, Senior bureaucrats, CXO’s of top organisations. One common thing you’ll realise that all of them speak in a very calm and composed manner. So, please speak slowly and calmly while answering.

  6. Mock interviews have limited utility. Do not rely too much on their feedback. Most of the feedback is going to be generic and based on technical questions. Same questions are asked from every candidate instead of personalizing them as per his/her biodata.

  7. For the technical part, revise your Phase 2 ESI Notes, RBI working and functioning PDF and current affairs. If you are not working with a bank, this should be more than enough.

  8. Fill your biodata very carefully. Do not leave any column blank. A well filled biodata gives you an edge of 10–15 marks easily. Leaving your biodata blank gives the Interviews freedom to ask anything.

  9. Try to introduce a consistency or theme in your biodata. It should look like you are destined to be an RBI Grade B Officer. Even if you have worked in seemingly unrelated domains, make a story around your experiences with focus on qualities and traits useful for your RBI job.

  10. Put a “WOW element” in your biodata. Something catchy, something that panel would look forward to discuss with you.
